Director, U.S. Army Artificial Intelligence Integration Center (AI2C)

COL Thomas A. Babbitt, Ph.D., serves as the Director of the Army Artificial Intelligence Integration Center (AI2C), leading the Army’s efforts to accelerate AI integration, develop a world-class AI workforce, and drive innovation across the modernization enterprise. Under his leadership, AI2C synchronizes critical AI initiatives, operationalizes the Army’s AI strategy, and partners closely with academia, industry, and government including strong collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University and the Pittsburgh AI and robotics ecosystem.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, COL Babbitt holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science, as well as a master’s and Ph.D. in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, and Command and General Staff College.

COL Babbitt previously served as the Cyber Research Center Director at West Point, where he is an Associate Professor, and has led multiple academic and programmatic initiatives shaping the Army’s cyber and computing education. Prior to transitioning to the Academy Professor career field (FA47), he held a variety of infantry and automation management assignments, including rifle platoon leader, company commander, battalion staff officer, and operations chief in Southwest Asia.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachute Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

As AI2C Director, COL Babbitt provides strategic leadership, vision, and direction ensuring the Army is prepared to develop, field, and sustain AI-enabled capabilities that strengthen warfighter effectiveness and support future multi-domain operations.
